Thanks for the accompying Photos of the vessel. Do you have any more details on its charaterictics that indicate what makes it a high performance freey? Are there foils that I see between the catamaran hulls? With additional information we would add the vessel to our site. And if you have a Web Site supporting your sales efforts we would be happy to add it to our links page.

As a volunteer organization we do not endorse or support sales. However, we are happy to post your notice for the benefit of our members.

    DAK Hydrofoil Extrusions      ViewThread
Cleaning out my garage, I came across the remains of a long abandoned sail powered hydrofoil project. These include some hydrofoil extrusions that I purchased from David Keiper ~25 years ago.

These are the 2" chord anodized 6061T6 aluminum hydrofoils that he was selling to convert small catamarans to foil-borne operation using a ladder foils in an airplane configuration. The history section of this site gives a good description.

I have five - 12' lengths of lifter stock (Clark-Y section) and two - 12' lengths & two - 5' lengths of strut stock (NACA 16-010 section)plus some shorter cut and fitted pieces and a Northwyn Thistle mailsail (70's materials, but new condition) and a serviceable International 14 genoa.

I will sell the lot to a good home for $50 US plus shipping.

Sad to read that David had passed on. I met him at Sailtech - 89 and have long been impressed with his work. BTW: A friend reported seeing him and "Williwa" in a S. Pacific port with a sign on the dock reading "Crew Wanted -- Chicks Preferred".

    DAK Hydrofoil Extrusions
A set of Dave Keiper's files related to these kits (approx. 270 loose sheets) is still available from IHS. This set includes draft instructions for attaching the kit, cutting patterns for making up the foils from the raw extrusions, extensive email correspondence related to testing and fine-tuning the design, calculations for selecting the foil profile, and many notes on capabilities and prices of potential extrusion suppliers. Dave only completed a couple of kits, and the remaining raw extrusions were sold to various people worldwide. This set of files will be of interest to anyone who with the desire and knowledge to design a hydrofoil kit. Keep in mind that the files are unfinished and unedited, and the kit design was never fully completed and debugged at the level of detail design. You must have the requisite technical and mechanical ability if you are to put these files to successful use. For more details and instructions on how to order the files, go to http://www.foils.org/ihspubs.htm#dakfiles
Much of the email correspondence in the files is with Dave Carlson. Dave was working with Dave Keiper to debug the kit design, and continued to refine the design and material specifications after Keiper's death. Carlson's website is at http://www.fastsail.com/catcobbler/. It might be well worth contacting him to discuss his more recent experiences and lessons learned on the subject of adding foils to cats.

    Source of Builder Locations
I am not sure what type of hydrofoils you are interested in... military or commercial? engine power, human power, or sail? The premier sources of info for military and commercial hydrofoils are Jane's Publications (http://www.janes.com) and Fast Ferry International magazine (http://www.fastferryinfo.com/). The IHS website has a section on designers and builders in the links page (http://www.foils.org/linksout.htm), however this accumulation of links cannot be considered complete. There are many shipbuilders capable of building hydrofoil craft "to print" and a few that offer standardized hydrofoil designs... many of the latter are in the IHS links. If, on the other hand, you are talking about small personal sailing craft, there are some links on the IHS site related to this area of hydrofoil manufacture. There are also some links related to human powered hydrofoils, althought the Human Powered Boats website (http://www.humanpoweredboats.com/) is a more complete source.

    re; Bovra Hydrofoil Restoration
Hi Peter, can you tell me approximately where the boat is located... Canada maybe? Secondly, is there any technical information that comes with the boat such as operator manual, engine manual, wiring diagram, etc. that would aid a restoration?

I have seen such craft auctioned in the eBay Motors section of www.ebay.com... I don't know how successful the auctions were, but this is a possible route to try selling it. eBay gets a lot of exposure; their membership is huge. In any case, if you do sell it, please remember to come back to your posted message here and add a reply to the effect that the boat is sold. Thanks!

    Historical Hydrofoils Wanted in France
I seek a few old, small Russian hydrofoils in any type of condition (Raketa, Polysie or Belarus hydrofoil). This is to make a houseboats here in Toulouse, the air and space center of France... a few people are interested in this. Also, and in addition to the houseboat project, I want to start a non-profit association to restore one medium or large Russian experimental hydrofoil (Sputnik, Chaika for example)... so I am looking for a good candidate to restore for historical purposes. The hydrofoil for non-profit restoration should be an experimental craft.

Re; Getting From Capri to Sorrento
Information about ferry service on this route can be found in English at the following site: http://www.ondaverde.it/orari_traghettii.htm . The information includes schedules, as well as names and phone numbers of several ferry operators. Evidently schedules vary with the season so it is probably worth calling the operator(s) you prefer to be sure of the times just in case the website is not up to date.

    Re; Kometa foil photos wanted
      Hello Mark,

Don't forget to look at Konstantin Matveev's Russian Hydrofoils website (http://www.hydrofoils.org). At one time he had photos of grounded hydrofoils posted on the site and I believe they showed some of the foil details for Kometa types. I can't find those photos on his site at the moment. Perhaps you could check with him?

Its a nice large scale model you have managed to obtain. Have fun building that kit.

    New to Hydrofoils
I am new to the world of hydrofoils, but I know that a business opportunity exists in the Caribbean. I am looking to purchase one power driven craft with a seating capacity between 125 and 200. It would be used for commercial purposes. If you own such a craft and wish to form a partnership in the Caribbean, or an outright sale,
Please contact me at the earliest convenience.
      Thanks,
      Sincerely,

Looking for a Pax Ferry Hydrofoil
We have developed a very efficient and sea-capable foil-assisted trimaran on behalf of a Norwegian client. The test craft used to prove the concept can be seen on our web site at www.islandengineering.com

A range of designs have been produced based on this concept, from 18m/pax only through 56m pax+cars. You would probably require the 23m/149-passenger version.

Feel free to contact us directly for further information if this is of interest. One of the 18m designs is starting construction in Norway.

    German Schnellboote Kits      ViewThread
I have read about the closing of 32nd Parallel and am very disapponited. I have been trying to find a 1/32 German S or E Boat kit for some time. I knew 32 parallel had them in the 1980s so I have two questions 1. did anybody take over the product line for 32nd parallel 2. are there any 1/24 or 1/32 german e-boat model companys that sell a kit out there. THANK YOU BOB MCLAUGHLIN

    Re; German Schnellboote Kits
Unfortunately, I have not heard of plans to take over 32nd Parallel's Schnellboot design. IHS has archived correspondence on models, including the 32nd Parallel model on the website at http://www.foils.org/modelrc.htm. If you see posted messages here that interested you, please try to contact the authors directly, as many of the email addresses are still good.

    Novel hydrofoil prototype for sale
After a successful testing program, our 43' 9-ton foil-assisted trimaran has no further mission or sponsorship. Before we dismantle the craft for salvage, we are offering it for sale as a fully functional operating hydrofoil. The craft can be seen on our web site at www.islandengineering.com. The craft operates at a lift fraction of 85-90% and is fully computer stabilized in height, roll, pitch and yaw with fly-by-wire steering of the twin Yamaha 250 outboards. The hull is 5083 aluminum with an easily removable FRP/sandwich superstructure. With over 2 tons of variable payload capacity, the craft could easily be converted to a 20-pax water taxi. With the current propulsion setup, the cruise speed is 25 knot with a 25 GPH fuel consumption rate. Maximum speed is 30 knots; a bit higher if loaded to maximum displacement; the maximumspeed is actually limited by excessive foil lift rather than the installed propulsion power. Seakeeping is phenomenal with bus-like ride quality in 4' significant seas at all headings.

    Volga 70 for sale      ViewThread
I have a Volga 70 export version (Volvo Penta stern drive) for sale. I found it in France 3 years ago and brought it back to my home in Sweden. I have fitted a Ford 350cu V-8 instead of the old 6-cylinder Volvo engine because it was totally rusted and useless. I have continued the restoration but I feel there is little time since I have now been blessed with my second child... The boat runs smoothly and I have had it passed 40 knots with still more throttle to give. The engine is probably too powerful, since the construction is made for approx 32-35 knots and a 100Hp engine, but I find that you can cruise at 30 knots with only half throttle and the boat climbs up on the foils with little or no effort at all, so I have kept the engine in place! However, as I mentioned, I do not seem to have the time I want to, or indeed the boat deserves, so I have decided to sell it. Price: 10 000 EUR E-mail me at: asa.skavenilsson@telia.com
