Notification by email is provided to members when a new edition is posted (if we have your email address!). If you did not receive notification, send an email requesting the password, then proceed to the instructions on how to download, read, and/or print the file. New members or previous members whose dues are delinquent, please pay your dues first, then request your password and download the file. Members have the choice of receiving their newsletters electronically over the Internet or hard copy by "snail mail." The electronic option is encouraged and recommended for various reasons benefiting both the membership and the Society. Please report and describe any problems obtaining, reading, and/or printing the file. Note that some of the newsletters can be nearly a megabyte in size. This takes some time to download, so you may experience a blank window in your browser while the download process occurs. One effective alternative is to waiting on a blank screen is to download the file to your hard drive first, then open it, rather than opening the file directly in your browser from its online location.

[19 Oct 98, updated 1 Sep 01] At the time of his death on 27 June 1998, David A. Keiper was finalizing the design and taking orders for a bolt-on hydrofoil kit. Designed to fit Beach Cats and other small catamarans, the planned foil kits would also be adaptable to similarly sized motorboats. Dave Keiper is most well known for designing the ocean-going hydrofoil yacht WILLIWAW and sailing it solo throughout the Pacific. Click Here for more information on Dave Keiper, including a review of his book Hydrofoil Voyager. |

[23 Jan 03] A set of Dave's files related to these kits (approx. 270 loose sheets) is available from IHS on CD-ROM in Adobe Acrobat format. You will need the free Acrobat Reader software to read and print these files. The set includes draft instructions for attaching the kit, cutting patterns for making up the foils from the raw extrusions (previously intended to be kept confidential as proprietary information), extensive email correspondence related to testing and fine-tuning the design, calculations for selecting the foil profile, and many notes on capabilities and prices of potential extrusion suppliers. Dave completed only a couple of kits, and the remaining raw extrusions were sold to various people worldwide. Thus it will not be possible to buy a set of the original extrusions unless one of those purchasers decides to put his set up for sale. Nevertheless, this set of files will be of interest to anyone who with the desire and knowledge to design a hydrofoil kit. Keep in mind that these files are unfinished and unedited. You must have the requisite technical and mechanical ability if you are to put these files to successful use. Click Here for more on contents and a disclaimer. Price for one copy of the files on CD-ROM including postage and handling is US$15.00 to addresses worldwide. Please do not order if mail service in your country is highly unreliable for packages. Note: the hard copy version of these files is no longer available, but you can print out the entire set of files or just specific pages of interest from the CD-ROM. |
